The Colorado Rockies is a professional team based in Denver , Colorado . The team was founded in the year 1991 but began playing as a part of National League in 1993. The Rockies played their first regular game session in 1993, against the Mets at New York 's Shea stadium, then the Rockies hosted the Montreal Expos at Mile High Stadium. Colorado earned their first win 11-4, behind 37-year-old Bryn Smith, who blanks the Expos over seven innings. The Rockies concluded their inaugural season by registering a record of 65 wins i.e. the most to be made by an NL expansion club. The team led the National League in attendance every year from 1993 to 1999. The Rockies led all NL teams in batting average (.282), home runs (200), hits (1406), and runs scored (785) in 1995 as manager Don Baylor directed the club to a wild-card playoff berth.
